Your Brain Is Not Broken. It's Just Tired.

If you've been using AI tools all day and by 3pm you feel like a wet paper bag— congratulations, you've discovered brain fry.

This is a real thing. HBR wrote about it. UC Berkeley researchers found it. The short version: when you use AI to make more decisions faster, your brain doesn't get a break— it gets more work. The bottleneck shifts from "doing the task" to "evaluating the output." And evaluating requires judgment, which is genuinely tiring.

So if AI is supposed to save you time but you're somehow MORE exhausted, you're not doing it wrong. You've just hit the cognitive wall that happens when you sprint instead of pace.

This week's shortcut: the 25-minute rule

Use AI in focused 25-minute sessions. Set a timer. At the end of 25 minutes, step away from the screen for at least 5 minutes before starting another session.

No, this is not a meditation prompt. Yes, it actually works. The research on decision fatigue shows that short recovery breaks between high-judgment tasks restore your ability to evaluate well.

One session. One task. One timer.

That's it.

The goal is not to optimize every minute of your day with AI. The goal is to still be functioning at 4pm.

You have my full permission to close the laptop, make a cup of tea, and stare out a window. The AI will still be there when you get back.
